How much time is needed for a complete restoration with crowns or veneers?

The entire process to restore your smile takes a total of two to three weeks. The process includes an initial consultation, creation and analysis of a model of your teeth, application of temporary veneers and application of the final crowns and veneers to bring you the smile you’ve always dreamed of.

How much tooth reduction is necessary?

Only a minimal amount of tooth reduction is necessary to apply veneers to healthy teeth – about the thickness of a contact lens. Where there is decay of the tooth a greater portion of the actual tooth may be replaced to remove any decay and prevent the necessity of future restoration of the tooth.

Do crowns and veneers change color?

No. The advantage of dental restoration using crowns and veneers is that they do not change color or stain.  Our patients are thrilled with this added benefit.

What are my options for tooth whitening?

With porcelain veneers each patient selects the shade of their new smile with assistance from our trained staff. You will be able to "test" your color during the short time of your temporary veneers.

What is a crown?

A crown – sometimes called a "cap" – is a tooth-like covering placed over a carefully prepared existing tooth.  Used to strengthen, restore, or improve the appearance of your natural tooth, a crown is placed on an individual tooth much like a thimble over your finger.

How are veneers different from crowns?

A full crown is indicated when a tooth has had root canal treatment or when a substantial amount of the entire tooth structure (enamel) has been lost.  A porcelain veneer, about the thickness of a contact lens, is indicated when only a portion of the front surface of a tooth needs replacing or repair.

How long will my crowns and veneers last?

Dental reconstructions using crowns and veneers are one of the longest lasting restorations in dentistry and last as long as if not longer than the life of a natural tooth.

What is the best way to care for crowns and veneers?

Care for them as you would any of your other teeth you wish to preserve!  Proper oral hygiene, including flossing at least once a day and brushing twice daily, is just as important as ever to help you keep your teeth and gums health, along with regular dental hygiene appointments.
