Dr. Sherman Ely, D.D.S, P.S.

When your smile is disfigured by decay, abrasion, chipping, breakage, or imperfect development, a dental restoration using veneers and crowns can transform your smile so that you can smile with confidence.

Dental veneers are an excellent cosmetic remedy for a variety of dental conditions that affect the appearance of the front teeth.  Porcelain Veneers are a thin, semi-translucent "shell", about the thickness of a contact lens, that are custom made to fit precisely over an existing tooth.  They are permanently bonded, held in place by a special resin that adheres the back of the veneer to the front of the tooth. Durable and color-stable, veneers are in many cases the perfect way to restore the natural function and beauty of your teeth.

In some cases, the use of crowns may be needed to achieve the full dental restoration you desire on teeth with significant amounts of decay. A crown – sometimes called a "cap" – is a tooth-like covering placed over a carefully prepared existing tooth.  Used to strengthen, restore, or improve the appearance of your natural tooth, a crown is placed on an individual tooth much like a thimble over your finger.

Though crowns and veneers are not suitable for every patient, they are a cosmetic alternative for a variety of dental conditions affected the front teeth, including:

  • Closing spaces between the teeth
  • Restoring broken or chipped teeth
  • Covering unsightly, stained, or washed out fillings
  • Whitening permanently stained or discolored teeth
  • Correcting uneven or crooked teeth

Veneers and crowns can last for years, depending on how well you take care of them.  Because veneers are stronger than simple bonding, they are also more resistant to stains and chipping.

The decision to enhance your smile with porcelain veneers and crowns is a personal one.  Even a subtle change in your smile can make an exceptional difference in the way you look and feel.
